Sir Francis Drake Wedding
Irina and Dan invited me to document their Sir Francis Drake Wedding because they were familiar with my work. They knew that I love bold colors in my images. The Sir Francis Drake is known for its unmistakable reds. You can’t miss the iconic red-clad doorman operating on Powell Street, and you gotta love the juicy red furniture in the bar and mezzanine.
When I walked into Irina’s bridal suite, I couldn’t believe all the gorgeousness. Hot red curtains, red and black furniture pieces (check out that wedding shoes shot), and very masculine red-and-black wallpaper (perfect for the boys!). Moreover, there was some lovely window light streaming in through two big windows.
Getting Ready for the Sir Francis Drake Wedding
It’s amazing when you don’t have to leave the room to get gorgeous shots. I used the red curtains and window light extensively to feature Irina’s gown. Irina and the bridesmaids were kind enough to climb up and play around on the windowsill before Dan and the boys arrived. We also set up the first look inside the room, keeping the setting simple and convenient. After that, I spent a little time photographing the gentlemen against that phenomenal Sir Francis Drake wallpaper. (New profile pictures – check.) Then we headed downstairs, to catch our limo bus to Nob Hill and the Golden Gate Bridge. We spent some time playing with the cable cars and stopping traffic in Nob Hill. Then we headed out to the bridge and Crissy Field area, where some incredible views of the City awaited.
A Beautiful Jewish Ceremony, Then Party Time!
After we returned from our photoshoot, it was time for the ketubah signing and ceremony. The ceremony space was clean and beautiful, with a stately chuppah. Both groom and bride were escorted down the aisle by their parents. At the end of the ceremony, Dan wasted no time breaking the glass. It was powerful. After that, it was time to party! The reception was absolutely rocking. There were many young people at this wedding, but even the parents and older folks packed the dance floor. The energy was amazing and sustained the entire evening. At the end, Dan stretched Irina’s garter around a football and tossed it high in the air. Some of the guys vaulted a man way up, and he made a one-handed catch worthy of Odell Beckham Jr. An unforgettable moment at Irina and Dan’s Sir Francis Drake Wedding!
